Recreation Facilities – Kelly Wilson

As summer continues to bring members and their guests to the pool and recreation area, we are happy to see everyone being able to enjoy themselves along with friends once again.

The parking lot along with the basketball area have both been resealed and lined. Again, we ask that you do not park on the grass unless the parking lot is full, and no spaces are available.

Members and guests using the pool are asked as always to please return all furniture to its proper place and to lower the umbrellas down before leaving the pool deck so members arriving will know the tables are available to them as they enter. This has always been a courtesy at the pool and remains to this day.

Children that are not fully potty trained are not permitted in the big pool and should only be taken into the kiddie pool. All children also must be in the swim diapers for everyone’s protection. Non swimming children are not allowed in the big pool unless they are always accompanied with an adult and never allowed past the safety rope.

Smoking and vaping are not allowed inside the pool area at any time. Please leave the pool area to do this. Any offense to this rule and members and guests will be asked to leave. Please remember as a member you are responsible for your guests.

The pavilion is open to all members and is available for rental for large events and parties. If interested, you must pick up a pavilion reservation form and return it to the office. All rentals are on a first come basis.

Pickle ball and tennis are playing in the mornings and all newcomers are invited to play.

Happy Hour in the Park is every third Friday under the pavilion. All members are invited and it’s a great time to meet and greet friends and neighbors. As always, its BYOB and bring yourself a snack to eat also.

Thank you for continuing to make our community so friendly and enjoyable as we wish all our members a great summer season.

Library – Sue O’Reilly

For those new to our community and a reminder to all-- a few things to remember about leaving donations to our small POA library:

We can only take popular fiction or non-fiction with a copyright date 10 years before the present. (Now - c2011 to c 2021—this is found usually in back of the title page.) Please put all donations in the plastic bin by the window.

Magazines can be left on the table-present and 1 month past.

Books on disc will be most appreciated (no tape).

Please NO “how to” books, i.e., crafts, sewing, cooking, gardening, financial, etc.

Puzzles are welcomed— put pieces in a plastic bag—none with missing pieces please.

Books we cannot use can be donated to the public library.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Book Discussion Group – Susie Riggs

stack of books isolated on white backgroundThe Book Discussion Group met on Friday, June 18. Our two reading selections for the month were American Dirt, by Jeanine Cummins and The Jane Austen Society by Natalie Jenner. American Dirt is an action-packed, suspenseful novel about a mother and her son as they struggle to flee cartel violence in Mexico. The Jane Austen Society is the feel-good story of a group of people in post-WWII England who work together to preserve the cottage where Jane Austen lived and wrote her final three novels.

Our next meeting will be held on Friday, July 16 at 10:00 a.m. in the POA library. We will be discussing The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd and The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson. All interested Carolina Shores residents are welcome to attend.

Garden Club Mary Conover

Members of the Garden Club enjoyed a social gathering on June 9 at the POA clubhouse. This was an opportunity for new members to finally experience the beautiful, renovated space we will use for our meetings in the fall. It was also an opportunity, with so many new members, to get to know each other a little better.

Our first meeting in the fall will be on September 8. Our guest speakers and activities are being planned, based on subjects voted on in a survey by our members.

The Garden Club meets the second Wednesday of the month, September to May, at the POA clubhouse, 17 Lakeview Ct. Dues are $10/year. Please contact Joanne Bendy at (910)575-0071 if you have any questions. Meanwhile, enjoy your summer, stay safe, and healthy!

Care Team – Flo Pflaster

http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/customer-care-team-d-isolated-43443409.jpgFor those of you who have volunteered to help others by being on the Care Team, here is how you make sure you are getting notifications when I post a request:

How to control all email notification settings (including groups)

1.      Log in to nextdoor.com and click your profile picture in the top right corner.

2.      Select Settings from the drop-down.

3.      Select Notifications from the left menu:

4.      Next to Email Notificationsselect Edit

5.      If you set Updates from your local area to None then you will not receive email notifications from your groups.

6.      If you set it to Only top posts or All you will get an email for every new group post. (choose this one)

Note: Adjusting these settings will affect all your email notifications, not just for groups.

If you want to be a part of this team or if you no longer want to be on the list, please let me know. There are not many calls for help, but people are so very grateful for the assistance they do get! It really does not take much to volunteer. Help with a small chore at home, an occasional ride, a temporary need for dog walking, etc. is usually what is needed. So, neighbors, continue to let me know if you need help and I will do my best to find someone.

Thank you,
